omg, we're MEETING AGAIN! We are having a meet-up at the Oktoberfest put on by Tampa World of Beer Fri. Oct 5 AT 6:30PM! There will be multiple Oktoberfest-style beers available from different distributors, a polka band, German food, and other USELESS TRADITIONS! Join us for geekery, beer, and lederhosen INDUCED WONDERMENT! Software Freedom Day 2006

Software freedom day for the Sarasota/Bradenton area is September 16th. Show your support! Last year we had our own, local event, so folks wouldn't have to drive to Tampa. This year, the event will be held at Mirta's Art Gallery and Coffee House, 119 S Hyde Park Ave, Tampa.

Seems this year, a major concern is folk believing Free Software == pirated software, which is obviously not the case. This year, let's make it a primary concern to display the greatness of free software and similarly inform the public it is a completely legitimate, superior alternative.

Sarasota/Bradenton Software Freedom Day Celebration.

Software Freedom Day (SFD) kicked off promptly, 10 a.m. this Saturday morning, at the Bradenton Books A Million located at the Corner of Cortez and Tamiami trail. Software Freedom Day is a global, grassroots effort to educate the public about the virtues and availability of Free and Open Source Software. The local organizers (pictured below) sat ready, with a plenitude of free software and technical skill, to answer the public's questions, regarding Free Software.

The ski gloves, with arrow, just kills me. But I am not sure what the little stick represents.

New Stats Page

First, I would like to raise a toast to WeeRobby, for hosting the stats page from his home. I find the stats page amusing and I hope you all find it equally entertaining. Now, the sslug stats page is up and I hope you find it just as entertaining. I have incorporated the image globbing feature of pisg so all the regular users have, at least, their image representation from WeeRobby's page and an avatar from Monty Python's Holy Grail. If you feel you are misrepresented by the images already present, by all means, elucidate me to your preferred image, in the channel.

The Social Suncoast Linux Users Group is comprised primarily of Suncoast Linux Users Group (SLUG) members, who have a penchant for alcoholic libation. These folk meet monthly to partake in adult revelry, with like minded individuals and couples. These gatherings are free from the usual bonds of hardware and software which, as anyone who attends a regular Linux Users Group meeting should expect, pervade the regular SLUG meetings. The object of these meetings is to draw Linux users together socially, under the commonality of "geekery" and good humor. Although many participants are from Sarasota, many others travel from Tampa, Orlando, Bradenton and Venice, to enjoy the monthly festivities.
